

Barbara Schmidtke Jump turned 82 years old on June 3rd, 2017. She passed away on June 30th, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida. Barbara’s professional career was spent at the University of Alabama, Huntsville. She retired in 1995 and was presented a 30 year achievement award for her commitment to the organization. After taking care of her ailing parents in Michigan for several years, she moved to Jacksonville to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Barbara was an active member of the Lakewood Presbyterian Church where she sang and traveled with the choir, headed up the annual Blood Drive, and volunteered with the Vacation Bible School program. These are just a few of many activities of which she devoted her time and energy. Simply stated, her numerous friends in the church were considered her extended family. Many thanks are extended to Doris and Frances, and the entire choir for their help and love for Barbara over the years.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Stella Schmidtke. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Jump Dawson; son-in-law, Scott Dawson; granddaughter, Robyn; and grandson, David. Also left behind are her son, Michael and his wife, Julie from Colorado; and her sisters, Susie Stapleton, Fran Kernigan; and brother, Bud Schmidtke.
The Memorial service will be held on Friday, July7th at 11:00 at the Lakewood Presbyterian Church, 2001 University Blvd. W, Jacksonville with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made directly to the church or to Community Hospice facility in Barbara’s honor.
