Barbara Ann Nelson

She was married 69 years to Robert (Bob) S. Nelson Sr. until his passing January 2020. Together they raised four children in South Plainfield, NJ, Robert S. Nelson Jr. (NJ), Barbara Frank (NJ) deceased, Patricia Smith (FL), Nancy Raffele (NJ).

Barbara, a graduate from North Plainfield, NJ, High School, and Saint Peter’s Nursing School in New Brunswick, NJ was a Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Saint Peter’s Hospital, and later at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, NJ.

After living 45 years in S. Plainfield, NJ, Barbara and Bob retired to Haines City, FL where they built a home designed by their son and resided there 24 years. In 2020, she moved to Jacksonville to be closer to her growing family.

Barbara enjoyed watercolor painting and her work placed and won awards in both NJ and FL art shows. She was a member of Saint Matthew Catholic Church, Winter Haven and Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, Jacksonville. She always put others first, enjoyed hosting large gatherings for family and friends and would strike up a conversation with anyone.

Also, lovingly known as “Granny”, Barbara was so very proud of and loved her seven grandchildren, Christine Slaughter (FL), Michael Frank (NJ), David Smith (FL), Gabriel Raffele (NJ), Matthew Nelson (OH), Katherine Raffele (NJ), and Sarah Nelson (NJ) and nine great-grandchildren, Morgan Slaughter, Scout Slaughter, Olivia Shealy, Wayne Smith, Grant Smith, Naomi Smith, Cameron Smith, Vivienne Smith, William Smith, (FL)

Our beautiful Mom, Granny, Aunt Bobbie, Barbara, will be truly missed and fondly remembered with love.
