Barry Harrell Greenleaf, age 53, graduated from this life on the morning of Tuesday, January 28 th, 2020, while in the care of Community Hospice at the Earl. B. Hadlow Center after waging a two-year battle against cancer. Barry was born on March 26, 1966, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Bob and Marilyn Hodges Greenleaf. A graduate of Samuel Wolfson High School, Barry went on to earn both a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Florida, and a Master's degree in Accounting from the University of North Florida.
A Certified Public Accountant, Barry's professional career of over thirty years was spent as an employee of the St. Johns River Power Park and JEA where he served in the treasury department as a manager of treasury and cash management.
Barry was an avid fan of science fiction literature, television, and movies. He loved all things Disney and enjoyed visiting Disney theme parks in Florida, California, and France. He was an Anglophile, a fan of British culture and many British television and radio shows. Barry enjoyed traveling, both in the United States and Europe, taking his parents on many memorable vacations.
Intelligent and creative, Barry was a talented writer and artist who enjoyed both drawing and crafting. He received great enjoyment, companionship, and comfort from his beloved cats, and worked with area rescue groups to save many felines who found their way to his home.
Barry was simply the best – the best son, brother, friend, cousin, boss, or coworker a person could have. Incredibly generous and gracious, Barry placed the highest value on his relationships with others. He was a rock on which his friends and loved ones could stand, and an anchor for them in difficult times – a real-life superhero greater than any fictional ones of whom he was a fan. Blessed with a great sense of humor, Barry's wry wit and practical jokes brought smiles to all who knew him.
Barry is survived by his father, Bob Greenleaf, and his brother, Robert Boyce Greenleaf. He is pre-deceased by his mother, Marilyn Yvonne Hodges Greenleaf. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barry's name may be made to First Coast No More Homeless Pets, Wags and Whiskers Pet Rescue, and Ana’s Angels.
A Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223.
