August 13, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Horace
Ernest Gamble.
She was born September 1, 1932, in Baldwin, Florida to Mr. Michael Wiley Andreu
and Mrs. Mamie Taylor Andreu. Her family moved to Julington Creek in 1932
when she was 3 mos. old. Since her parents couldn’t agree on a name, they called
her “Sister”. Her mother dreamed her name to be “Beatrice”, which means
“bringer of joy”. Beatrice attended Loretto Public School, Dupont Junior High
School and graduated from Landon Senior High School. She worked as a dental
assistant for Dr. James Parks and when he was drafted, she went to work for
American National Bank.
Beatrice was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville (Mandarin.) Horace and Bea also
spent time in New Port Richey, Florida while summering in Watertown, New York,
where Horace was born and raised.
Mrs. Gamble was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, the owner of
Julington Creek Pier 3 Marina and owned several Employment Agencies for 35
years. She received a distinguished honor award of (“BOSS-of-the Year”) by
Jacksonville Crown Chapter, American Businesswomen’s Association in 1970. She
was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother (10) and great grandmother
(12). Mrs. Gamble is survived by her sons Michael and David (Caitlin); daughter
Mary Hughes (Jim); grandchildren Chris Gamble (Jillian), Courtney Colvin, Caleigh
Stapleton (John), Tiffany Castelitz (John Immel), Keegan Ross Gamble (Tweetie),
Brittney Godek (Chris), Brandi Mathews (Will), Brianna Hamilton (Regina), Ben
Hughes (Emily), Dan Hughes and Hope Thompson. She is survived by her brothers
Wiley Andreu, Melvin Andreu, brother-in-law Richard McEwen and many nieces
and nephews. She is predeceased by brothers Charles, Emory and Aubrey and
sister Mamie (Lovie).
The family will receive friends Tuesday August 16, 2022, 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at
Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held
Wednesday, August 17 th , 10:00 am at Fruit Cove Baptist Church, 501 State Road
13, St. Johns, FL 32259. Arrangements by Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Chapel
11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida 32223. Following the funeral service, a
graveside service will be held at the Mandarin Cemetery.
A visitation for Beatrice will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Fruit Cove Baptist Church, 501 State Road 13, Saint Johns, FL 32259.
