After service in the Navy, Ben became a professional bus and truck driver. He logged millions of safe miles and made friends along the way. Ben was a fun, kind and compassionate man and often went out of his way to put a smile on a stranger's’ face. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed riding motorcycles, camping, square dancing and fun card games.
Ben is preceded in death by his parents, William Ross and Beulah Caldwell, brother Ross Caldwell and sister Faye Swenson.
Ben is survived by his wife of 34 years, Joy, daughters Deborah Holland (Ronnie) of Hendersonville, TN, Kristy Gann (Kevin) of Goodlettsville, TN and step-daughter, Zoe Brady (Jack), of Lake Butler, FL, sister JoAnn Englin of Myrtle Beach, SC and brother Jack (Janet) of Mt. Juliet, TN, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Special thanks to the nursing staff on the 5th floor of Baptist South and Community Hospice at Baptist South for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at Hardage-Giddens Funeral home, 11081 San Jose Blvd on Tuesday, November 7th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am and funeral service at 11:00 am. Pastor Andy Pietrylo will be officiating services. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a reception at the home – 10885 Steeding Horse Drive, Jacksonville, FL.
Interment will follow at a later date at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
