Born in Brooklyn, NY on February 16, 1985, Ben was the firstborn son of Haitian immigrants Junker and Seurette Sylvestre. He grew up in a large and vibrant, close-knit household, which left him with a deep appreciation for family, community, and resilience.
Ben was known for his quick wit, sharp mind, and an uncanny ability to put anyone at ease. He possessed a strong drive and an exceptional work ethic, testing into Brooklyn Technical High School, graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Computer Engineering, and serving in various leadership roles and ultimately as a Director at Deutsche Bank. He was also a proud, dedicated member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, where he built and retained lifelong friendships.
Outside his professional achievements, Ben was a natural giver, incredibly generous with his time and resources. Indeed, he was “that guy”. The guy who walked fatherless brides down the aisle, the guy who served as the exuberant emcee at family and work events, the moral support guy, the consummate NY sports guy, the runner, the aspiring golfer, the let’s-be-silly-with-my-daughter-and-other-kids-guy, the list goes on.
Above all, Ben was a family guy. Indeed, for all his achievements, Ben’s greatest joy was the beautiful life he built with his beloved and adored wife, Julissa. They shared a profound love and true partnership, and ultimately welcomed their daughter, Naomi, who was the absolute light of Ben's life. Ben was a patient, protective, funny and deeply loving father, and his legacy will undoubtedly guide Naomi as she grows.
In addition to his wife, daughter, and parents, Benjamin leaves behind a special bond with his siblings: Julie Hennighausen, Eliezer Sylvestre, Ruth Rossi, and Abraham Sylvestre. He was a beloved brother-in-law, a proud uncle, and a loyal friend, colleague, and fraternity brother to so many. His presence will be sorely missed.
Ben’s life was a testament to the power of family, hard work, and generosity. He will be remembered for the beautiful devotion he showed to everyone he loved.
