

Bette Rose Moon, beloved Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law and friend died Sunday, February 20th, 2011 at her daughter’s home in St. Johns, FL. Born in Louisville, KY to Ephriam Spencer Garrett and Reita Canterbury Garrett, she married Virgil Carthell Moon, Jr. after their graduation from the University of Alabama in 1948. She received her Master’s Degree from Auburn University in 1967 while her husband served in the US Army overseas. Col. Moon preceded her death at Christmas in 1976.
Bette led a distinguished career for 35 years in education, here in the US and abroad, as a classroom Teacher, Librarian and County Media Director, State President of the Florida Association of Media in Education, was Phi Beta Kappa, President of the FWB Pilot Club, President of the FWB Business and Professional Women’s Club and was instrumental in the origin of Hospice in Northwest Florida.
The integrity that characterized Bette’s life followed her to Jacksonville, FL as she helped families buy and sell their homes in the local real estate market. She was affiliated with Watson Realty and then with the Prudential Network Realty.
She is survived by her daughter, Tommie Taylor and her husband, Bill of St. Johns, Fl; son, Virgil C. (Buddy) Moon and his wife, Stacy, of Huntsville, AL; loving grandchildren, Elizabeth Franco and her husband, Ken, great-grandchildren, Taylor Garrett, Ansley Rose, and Crystal, all of St. Johns, FL; grandson, Will Taylor and his wife, Jen, youngest great-grandchild, Corey Elizabeth, all of Jacksonville, FL; loving sisters-in-law, Dorothy Weathers and Connie Gafford and her husband Larry, all of
Birmingham, AL and so many beloved relatives and friends.
A Gathering of Friends will be held at 2:00pm on March 5th at Tommie and Bill's. Interment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery of Birmingham, AL at a later date.
