Betty Rogers Adams
August 4, 1915 – October 9, 2012
ADAMS Betty Rogers Adams died on October 8, 2012, having lived for 97 blessed years. She was born August 4, 1915, in Jacksonville, Florida, the daughter of Florence Bisbee Rogers and Edgar Hamlet Rogers, and was married to John Reese Jack Adams for 62 years before his death in 2004. Betty attended Robert E. Lee High School and Florida State University, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. At various times in her life she was a leader in PTA, The Junior League of Jacksonville and Colonial Dames, and for generations she was a pillar of St. Mark's Church, serving as President of the Women's Auxiliary and the Altar Guild. In whatever she did, it was not her task but her heart that identified her. Her life was basically about loving and giving to everyone she knew (or met), even in her home-bound senior years. Betty was cherished for her behind-the-scenes gifts of unconditional love, caring and nurture of all those around her, starting with her family and extending through the entire community. Having come from a big, loving family, and having accepted her place as a beloved child of God, she had a way of making others feel like they were all treasured members of both her family and the family of God. Betty was pre-deceased by her daughter, Margaret Adams Maggie Barnett, her husband, John Reese Jack Adams, Jr., and her son-in-law, Thomas Jones Tom Rubel. She is survived by her daughter, Florence Adams Rubel, her three grandchildren, Richard Leslie Grant (Darden Porter), John Adams Grant (Amy Lee) and Margaret Elizabeth Liza Barnett; and her six dearly-loved great-grandchildren, Porter Leslie Grant, Jane Peyton Grant, Claibourne Richard Grant, Haynes Lee Grant, Reagan Elizabeth Grant and Samuel Thomas Grant. A funeral Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving for Betty's life will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 15, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 4129 Oxford Avenue, followed by an interment at Evergreen Cemetery. The Reverends Jonathan Coffey, Barnum McCarty, Jr., and Sandra Moyle will officiate. In lieu of flowers, any gifts of love would be greatly appreciated by St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Dear Flo & Family,
Words cannot begin to express my sorrow at hearing belatedly the news of Betty's passing. As Mom's best friend for so many years, I always felt as though she was a member of my family. In coming to Jacksonville to visit, no trip was complete without going to see her and getting caught up. I am blessed to have so many memories of laughter shared and tears shed together. Betty was a source of love to so many in my family, and I have spoken of her often to my friends. I will miss her dearly, sitting on the porch in her little house. I know, however, that she has gone to find Ruth, so that they may once again stay up nights watching their Atlanta Braves. I hope it brings you some comfort knowing how much I and Porter have cherished her, and how much we will miss her. Blessings to you all.

May the family find comfort in the memories. Keeping in mind the Scriptural hope of everlasting life can help to sustain us during difficult times (John 17:3)
