She was born to Viola Garner Martin and Carl William Martin on December 13, 1927 in Bay City, Michigan.
Betty worked for AT&T after high school , and after raising her family , went back to work later in life. She retired from AT&T in 1986 after 23 years of service.
Betty was a dedicated Mother, loving wife and an amazing homemaker, cook, and baker. She made fabulous pies that her family love d at every special occasion. She enjoyed the serenity of yardwork, watching game shows, and was a skilled and competitive league bowler. Betty enjoyed slot machine gambling and traveling with her children and grandchildren to Las Vegas and Reno. She always had the best of times with her family.
Our Mother was a remarkable , wonderful woman who took care of her family and raised her children mostly on her own. She was so kind, always had a smile, and was the best listener. Her wisdom helped so many.
Betty is predeceased by her parents, daughter Janis Joy, her loving husband Jim Moorhead, sister Mary Ellen Sink, and niece Nancy Lutz.
She is survived by sons Craig Ausum, daughter-in-law Sabrina, Scott Ausum, daughter-in-law Sheila, daughter Karen Ausum, partner John Parks, stepson James Moorhead II, stepdaughter-in-law Gale, grandchildren Jennifer O'Brien (Sean), Scott Ausum II (Shawna), Greg Ausum (Meg) , step-grandsons Jacob Moorhead, Joseph Moorhead , great-grandchildren James O'Brien, Tommy O'Brien, and Riley Ausum and nieces Laura Kempf (Marty) and Jill Hickey (Quinn).
A service will be held Saturday, September 18 at 10:00 am at the St. Joseph's Historic Catholic Church , 4214 Loretto Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32223, followed by a graveside service at Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 9:15 before the church service. If sending flowers, please send them to Oaklawn Cemetery , 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207 . They will ensure the flowers are brought to the church.
