Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Betty Whittle Williams passed away on October 22, 2026, at the age of 94, leaving behind a legacy defined by kindness, compassion, faith, and an extraordinary love for others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, an amazing friend, and a source of comfort and encouragement to all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Betty shared her talents in many different areas, including as a kindergarten teacher, an employee at Independent Life, where she worked alongside several family members, and a member of the team at the Florida Baptist Convention. Wherever life took her, she brought thoughtfulness, dedication, and a genuine concern for others. She had a special way of making people feel valued, offering a listening ear without judgment, and extending kindness without ever expecting anything in return.
Above all else, Betty's greatest joy was her family. She poured her heart into raising her children and treasured every opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. Whether gathered around the dinner table, playing cards, sharing stories, or making memories, she made family feel like home. She expressed her love through the incredible meals she prepared and the traditions she carried on, passing down not only her recipes and cooking talents to her grandchildren, but also the joy of bringing people together through food. Her love extended to all four-legged companions, too, as she was a devoted animal lover who found a special place in her heart for the pets who were part of the family.
Betty's faith was central to her life and guided the way she treated others. Her love of God provided a steady foundation through life's joys and challenges. A breast cancer survivor, she faced adversity with remarkable courage, perseverance, and resilience, embodying the strength that comes from faith and a deep love for family.
She also had a passion for traveling and seeing the world. She loved exploring new places, especially alongside her husband and extended family. These adventures brought her opportunities to experience new things, strengthen family bonds, and create treasured memories with those closest to her.
Betty will be remembered for her sparkling blue eyes, generous spirit, unwavering faith, and quiet strength. She had a rare gift for making others feel welcomed, valued, and cared for. Her presence was a blessing, her friendship was a treasure, and her love was a legacy that will live on through the many lives she touched.
She is survived by her husband, Don, son, Greg Williams (Kim); daughter, Pam Walker (Doug); four grandchildren, Natalie Cherry (Dave); Austin Williams (Erin); Tory Davis (Mathew); Collin Walker (Taylor); three great-grandchildren, Colton, Blake and Ireland; two treasured sisters-in-law, Angelyn Williams and Rebecca Hamlet; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; as well as several beloved great-granddogs. She is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Myra Whittle, and brother Jimmy.
Arrangements for a Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date. Memorial gifts in her memory may be made to the following organizations: Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church (Jacksonville, FL), Westminster Communities Foundation (benefiting Westminster Woods on Julington Creek), Bridges for Parkinson’s Foundation (Franklin, TN), or to a charitable organization of your choice.
Though she will be deeply missed, Betty's legacy will live on through the family she cherished, the traditions she passed down, and the countless people whose lives were brighter because they knew her.
