Born on August 22, 1935, in Slapout, Alabama, Billy was the only child of the late Clara and Douglas Heisler. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he proudly served for 4 years. He then started a career with Farmbest while pursuing an accounting degree at Auburn University Montgomery.
In 1973, he accepted a transfer with Farmbest and moved his family to Jacksonville, Florida. He eventually went back to college at the University of North Florida where he received his bachelor’s degree in accounting and marketing. He then worked with H&R Block in Jacksonville for several years and his love and interest in processing tax returns never waned as he was talking about them up to his last few days on this earth.
Billy was a very hard worker and made sacrifices to support his family well. He set a great example by continuing college later in life while working a full-time job. Billy was blessed with a gentle, quiet and patient demeanor but always enjoyed a good laugh! He set the bar high on how to be a great man, husband, father and grandfather!
Billy was an avid fan of Alabama football! He enjoyed watching it surrounded by his family as often as possible and there was no doubt it was a Crimson Tide home! He was usually sporting an Alabama shirt whether at home, out to dinner or at church.
Billy also enjoyed fishing and even bought a boat so he could take the grandchildren out as often as possible. They made so many great memories and brought back plenty of fish tales.
He was a committed member of the Arlington Mason Lodge and held all the various offices including becoming the Worshipful Master. Billy is survived by his beautiful wife, Melba Godwin Heisler of 63 years, his son Michael Gerald Heisler and daughter-in-law Tami Thrower Heisler, grandson, Shane Michael Heisler, granddaughter, Meagan Heisler Biesecker and her husband Benjamin. He was affectionately known as Pop Pop to his grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32211 on April 17, 2026, at 11:00 am. Visitation at 10:00 am.
