Blake Rutland, age 48, left this earth to be present with Jesus Monday, June 21, 2021. He was born May 1, 1973, in Albany, Georgia and at the age of 12 met a young Stephanie Corley at McIntosh Elementary School. Blake and Stephanie’s deep friendship and great love story spans 36 years. After graduating from Westover High School, Blake married the love of his life, and he and Stephanie later moved to Jacksonville, Florida where they started their family. If Blake loved anyone more than Stephanie it was their son Chandler.
Blake adored Chandler from the moment he was born. Full of life and laughter, Blake wanted to share all he loved with his son. Blake loved the Lord and his church, Fruit Cove Baptist, where he was very active in the Upward Basketball program. Through Upward Basketball, Blake shared his love of sports with Chandler coaching and refereeing numerous games. Other sports Blake shared with Chandler included golf and his cherished Florida Gators. Everyone who knew Blake knew he loved the Gators. Football season was his favorite time of year!
Blake began his career in finance holding the title of director of finance and general manager at several organizations before joining Total Construction Solutions as a project manager. Blake had a strong work ethic always putting his heart and soul into every project he undertook.
Blake was known for his generous heart, beautiful smile, and sense of humor. He would drop what he was doing to help a friend day or night. He was a devoted, kind, and loving man always putting the needs of his family above his own. This earth will not be the same without Blake Rutland and his presence will be forever missed.
Blake is survived by his loving wife Stephanie Rutland, devoted son Chandler Rutland, mother Linda Thornton Rutland, Father John Rutland, and sister Brooke Rutland.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Blake at Fruit Cove Baptist Church (501 SR 13, St. Johns, Florida 32259) at 2pm on Saturday, June 26, 2021. In lieu of flowers consider a contribution to Blake’s beloved Fruit Cove Baptist Church for the Cove Counseling Center. Prior to COVID, Blake was working toward a certificate for Christian counseling for the various outreach projects at the Cove.
To honor Blake, tell the countless stories you have from sharing in his life. Remember the times he made you laugh. Blake lived every day to its fullest, laughed as much as he could, loved as much as he could, and cherished his family and friends with all his heart.
