

Callie McClain Atkins was born on October 17, 1940 in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Hendersonville, North Carolina to the late Alonzo & Evelyn McClain. Callie was the fourth of eight children. She transitioned to her heavenly home on August 8, 2022 at the Orange Park Medical Center, Orange Park, FL. Callie attended public school in Asheville, NC then Gaffney, SC. From there the family moved to Stamford, CT. While on her way to church, she met the love of her life, William Atkins. They moved to Greenwich, Connecticut where they raised their 3 children. Callie studied Floral Design at Norwalk Community College in Norwalk, Connecticut and the rest is history.
Callie was a faithful and dedicated Christian. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenwich, CT. There she served as Mass Choir President. She led the Floral Ministry where fresh flowers were provided for Sunday Services. She served on numerous committees over the years, always supporting scholarships for the youth.
She loved her family and her friends, each in a unique way. During her illness she reminded us that “Through it all” “God had been “Mighty Mighty” good to her.
She worked as the first “Parking Enforcement Officer” for the Town of Greenwich with the Greenwich Police Department for 31 years. There she received commendations for her loyal service. She was highly respected and a joy to her co-workers. She retired in 1997.
Following retirement she and William moved to Fleming Island, Florida. They united with Hopewell Church. Reverend Gary L. Williams, Sr, Pastor, Jacksonville, Florida. They attended regularly and are supportive and active members of the church.
Callie and William had the opportunity to travel in and out of the country enjoying their retirement together until the pandemic prevented travel and Callie’s health began to decline. She was preceded in death by her loving son William in 2007. Three brothers and two sisters.
Her death leaves to mourn her husband William of 62 years affectionately known as “Lovie”, two daughters, Christine Atkins of Stockholm, Sweden, Michelle (Kenneth) Wright of Stamford, Connecticut, daughter-in-law Dominique Atkins, Columbia, Maryland, eight grandchildren, Bryan, Sean, Eric (Aijah), Lucas, Claudia, Kenneth, Kyla, Douglas; 4 great-grandchildren Marquis, Brielle Callie, Mathieu and Sydney. An adoring sister and brother, Gladys Brown and Alonzo Sloan (Evelyn) McClain, Jr, Two sister-in-laws, Margaret Mouzon and Helen Chambers, one brother-in-law Robert Atkins, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Last but not least a loving and supportive church family, friends and neighbors.
