Callie Virginia Wise Patsy (Ginger), was born on January 24, 1961, and passed away surrounded by her family on September 26, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ginger grew up in Chiefland, FL and was a 1983 graduate of Florida State University with a degree in Finance. She later earned her Master of Education degree from FSU. Ginger married her soul mate and best friend Rick Patsy in 1987 in Jacksonville, FL. Rick and Ginger moved with the Navy to Albany, NY, Chesapeake, VA, and returned to Jacksonville in 1989 where Ginger was employed by Southeast Bank. After having their two daughters, Callie and Caroline, they moved to Tallahassee where their daughter, Maggie was born. The Patsy family relocated to Irmo, SC where Ginger experienced the joy of teaching at Ballentine Elementary School. In 2009, the Patsys made their final move back to Jacksonville where Ginger taught fourth and fifth grade at Hendricks Avenue Elementary School for the past seven years. She cherished the friendships she made there with her fellow teachers, parents and most importantly, her students.
Ginger’s personality was larger than life. She was well known by her loud voice and contagious laugh; everyone knew when she was in the room. Ginger most loved spending time with her family, teaching, and playing tennis at San Jose Country Club. Ginger was the life of our party and never missed an opportunity to gather with family and friends. We will forever miss her zest for life and family.
Ginger was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, J.C. and Callie Partin, and her paternal grandparents, Dewitt and Virginia Wise. Ginger is survived by her husband, Rick Patsy; daughters, Callie, Caroline, and Maggie; her father, Dr. Kenneth Wise (Linda); and mother, Mary Jane Humphrys (Jim). She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Samuels (Benford); brothers, David Wise (Allison), Derrick Wise; and step-brother, Marty Greenlee (Nancy). Survivors also include five nieces and a nephew who loved her dearly.
The family would like to thank the many healthcare professionals who helped Ginger in her battle against cancer, specifically Dr. Matt Robertson and Dr. Gerry Colon, their loving staff, and all of the outstanding nurses from the 8th floor at Mayo Clinic. They would also like to thank the staff at the Community Hospice- Hadlow Center for the care they provided in her final days.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 30th from 1:00 pm -3:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida.
