

Carl C. Childress passed away on Tuesday March 29, 2016, with his son at his side. He was born April 15, 1921 in Grundy, Virginia. Carl began his military career in 1942 serving both in WWll and the Korean War. He proudly served under many branches of US Military; Retiring from the Airforce as Chief Warrant Officer. Carl was also a proud member of the Francis T Hurlbert Lodge, which merged into Solomon’s Masonic Lodge #20 and served as a Shriner in the Moroccan Temple. A longtime resident of Jacksonville, Carl saw to it, to help people whenever he could, assisting by running errands, taking others to appointments, helping friends and neighbors find employment whatever the needs were. He enjoyed fishing and handyman details around his home. He loved to visit with friends and family. He took comfort and joy from listening to Gospel music especially the “Gaithers”.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Claudia M. Childress. His parents, one brother, and seven sisters. Surviving is his only son, Larry, of Jacksonville. Three sisters, Edith O’Brien, Phyllis McKeon and Madeline (Karl) Tucker; as well as several nieces and nephews.
