Caroline Shaw Corrigan, 83, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's, passed away quietly on October 12, 2018 after a day spent surrounded by family, long-time caregivers and clergy. Born and raised as an only child in rural South Carolina, she moved to Charleston SC where she graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina as a Registered Nurse and served as Head Nurse of the OB/GYN unit. In Charleston, she met and married the love of her life, New York born and bred, Citadel Football player, Michael (Mike) L. Corrigan. Evidence of the success of their 61 year marriage/partnership can be seen in their large, close-knit family, successful family business (Nu-Trend Plastics), and philanthropic support of numerous groups. After moving to Jacksonville, FL in 1960 with her growing family, Caroline served as Head Nurse of OB/GYN at St. Vincent's Hospital and became a fully engaged community member serving in leadership roles in the local and regional Junior Woman's Club, Garden Club, and St Paul's Catholic Church & School. Known as "Taco Tilly" at the School, her service to the community and dedication to her church formed the foundation by which her children and grandchildren conduct their lives.
A "Supermom" before the term was popular to Shawn Corrigan Asmuth (John), Kelly Corrigan Wood (Raymond), Michael Corrigan, Jr (Edna), Caroline Corrigan Yazdiya (David), Casey Corrigan Rogers (Dwayne) and Nana to her thirteen grandchildren Ian Wood, Chelsea Corrigan Kennedy (Tyler), David Yazdiya (Mary Kate), Ashley Asmuth, Trevor Wood (Hannah), Emily Corrigan, Talbot Yazdiya (Ashley), Shelby Wood, Connor Corrigan, Caroline Yazdiya, Casey Wood, Riley Rogers and Gabriella Rogers, she rarely missed an event in which a family member participated. She was immensely proud of her family's many accomplishments and contributions to society and led by example, instilling a spirit of hard work, giving, loving and family. In addition to her children and grandchildren, their spouses and fiances, she is survived by her husband and partner in life, Mike Corrigan, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and cousin JW (Dub) Brock. She was preceded in death by her loving parents Ouida S. and Louie C. Shaw.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Home Instead Senior Care, especially her long-time caregivers Shirley and Gigi, for the loving care they provided. Remembrances in her name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, St Paul's Catholic School or Ladies Guild.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 6-8 pm at St. Paul's Catholic Church located at 2609 Park St, with the Vigil at 7 pm. A funeral Mass will be held at the same location on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 11 am with burial and reception to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
