Martin, Cary L. – Born in Jacksonville, FL on April 5, 1962, to Joe Martin and Alice Annette Ritter Morrow. He passed away Tuesday May 19, 2015. He was predeceased by his father, Joe, and by his wife of 31 years, Marie Martin. He is survived by his mother Annette Morrow and step-father Bob Morrow, of Jacksonville, FL; daughters Ashley, Jessica (Otis Archer), and Caryn (Cory Clark), all of Jacksonville, FL; his fiancée Tina Verduzco, St. Augustine, FL; granddaughters Jade, Ivie, and Teaghan Archer, Jacksonville, FL; sister Debbie Shef (Stu) of Fairfax, VA; brothers-in-law Palmer Anderson (Mutsuko) of Camarillo, CA and Kevin Anderson (Rebecca) of Jacksonville, FL; mother-in-law Martha Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; and nieces Chelsea and Cynthia Anderson, Camarillo, CA, Caitlin and Alana Anderson of Jacksonville, FL.
Cary worked in Radio/TV broadcasting and engineering for over 30 years, beginning his career as a video engineer with Southeast Electronics. He was employed with WJXT for 21 years before moving to WTLV for the next 8 years as Chief Engineer and Director of Broadcast Engineering. He was also the tech director for 2Ghouls. He was brilliantly skilled in his field and he thought of many of his coworkers and employees as close friends.
Cary married Marie, his high school sweetheart, in 1981 and together they raised three daughters while carving out a little slice of the American dream of their own. Through sickness and in health, Cary and Marie were devoted to one another until her death in 2012. His family meant the world to him and he provided them with everything they needed, be it love, encouragement, or a silly “Dad” joke when they were feeling down. He taught his daughters how to ride a bike, drive a car, and bonded with them by sharing his enjoyment of over the top sci-fi TV movies and shows. His fiancée Tina engaged Cary in experiencing newfound hobbies that he loved, such as cooking, attending concerts, and exploring the unknown. Tina and Cary were set to marry later this year, an event which he was excitedly looking forward to. Cary was a man we all looked up to and his passing is one that has left a hole in our hearts. He was a quiet man with a big spirit, and he was always there when we needed him. We love you.
“What do you hear? Nothing but the rain.”
