Celia Sanchez, age 75, passed away peacefully May 8, 2022 at her home in Mandarin after a long battle with cancer. It would be wrong to say that Celia lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have been broken, Celia stayed strong. Through her we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Celia. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn't mean she lost her battle.
The world lost a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister; however, her grandchildren especially her grandson Alexander Osvaldo Sanchez, considered Celia his mother. She cared deeply for her family. She was always the first to offer help whenever help was needed even if that was to a total stranger. She loved Jesus, she loved her church and her church family was her extended family. She had a passion for making sure her children and her grandchildren knew about Jesus. Her latest job was a handicap attendant on the school bus. She loved children.
She is preceded in death by her father Francisco Delgado Gomez and her mother Marcelina Torres Gomez. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Osvaldo Sanchez Sr. of Jacksonville, Florida; her sons; Osvaldo Sanchez Jr. (Jennefer O'Connor) of Jacksonville, Florida, Alfonso Sanchez of Jacksonville, Florida and Samuel Sanchez of Jacksonville, Florida. She also leaves behind six brothers; Natividad Gomez, Jose F. Gomez, Saul Gomez, Josue Gomez, David Gomez and Daniel Gomez; three sisters; Evelia Rosado, Melita Jara and Maria De Jesus Chasco; also, 8 beautiful grandchildren, one great grandson and a host of family and friends.
A Celebration of Celia’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 20th with visitation one hour prior to service, at Christ Church Pentecostal, 2226 Saint John’s Bluff Road S., Jacksonville FL 32246 with Pastor Mervyn Miller as officiant, followed by procession to Greenlawn Cemetery for interment service.
