Charlene Hawkins James

She was born on September 16, 1949 to the late John and Modestine Myers Boyd (Hazel Myers) in the Bronx, New York. She received her education and graduated from Ossining High School in 1968 in Ossining, New York.

Charlene was a gifted hair stylist for over 30 years. She worked for Sam’s Club and Costco for many years, where she developed many lasting and long friendships.

Charlene was a devoted Christian and member of Impact Church under George and April Davis, in which she served on the hospitality team until she was unable to do so. She also has a loving church family while being a long-time member of Living Water Christian Fellowship under Steven W. Banks in Newport News, VA.

Charlene was predeceased by her son, Robert Minter Jr. Her sisters Helen Corneilson and Ernestine Smith and her brother Harry Boyd.

Left to cherish Charlene’s memory are her daughter Tanya James Tucker (Mark) and daughter in law Leslie Minter. Her sisters Sandra Boyd and Elaine Wells. Her brother Melvin Boyd. Her Uncles Amos Myers, Samuel (Betty) Kennerly, and Wilmore “Bill” Kennerly. Her Aunts Emma Holmes, Sara Kennerly, Alice Kennerly, Jeannie Kennerly, and Janette Kennerly. Her Grandchildren Rashard (Candace), Damian (Qanita), Jasmine, Blair, Jordan, Hallie, Robert “Julian”, Alex, Madison, Logan, Marcus, Tristan, Kinley. Her Nieces Charlette and Ivorey. Her Nephews Charles “Chuck”, Derrick, Maurice, Travis, Brett, Daryl, Troy, Christopher, Courtney, and Jordan. Her 13 Great grandchildren and host of cousins, family, and friends.

Charlene will be missed for her wonderful sense of humor, great eye for decorating, and passion for cooking in which she passed on to her children. She was a mother, sister, and friend to anyone who needed her.
