

A New York City native, Charles served in the USMC from 1959-63 before earning his BS in Business Administration from St. John’s University, NY in 1968; he later earned an MBA in Finance from St. John’s. As a certified public accountant, he worked for Peat Marwick and Touche Ross before assuming the position of Chief Financial Officer, then Chief Executive Officer, at the Osteopathic Hospital and Clinic of New York (formerly Hillcrest General Hospital). After a return to private practice as a CPA, Charles most recently held the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer at Westminster Securities in New York before retiring to Jacksonville in 2009. He was a member of the National Economics Honor Society, a fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and an Allied Member of the New York Stock Exchange.
An avid lifelong sailor, Charles was a member of the Richmond County Yacht Club in Staten Island, NY and the Rudder Club of Jacksonville, FL. He was a Flotilla Commander and boating instructor for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, Algot and Katherine Carlson. He is survived by his daughters Christina Carlson and Dianna Carlson Bright, his son-in law Bill Bright, his granddaughter Aurelia Carlson, his three brothers, John, Edward and Thomas Carlson and their children Thomas, John, Sara, Heather and James. Visitation will be held from 11:45 am to 1:45 pm on Wednesday, November 17, in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, November 17, in St. Joseph Historic Catholic Church, 4214 Loretto Road, Jacksonvile, with Fr. Daniel Cody as Celebrant.
