Charles R. Merritt attended Orange Park High School, in Orange Park, Florida. A decent football player. But he excelled in Chess and Hockey, winning quite a few trophies.
Charles, a USN Military Dependent traveled to many cities and countries during his fathers 30 years of military service. After retiring to Jacksonville, Florida, Charles started his own landscaping business. He later met and married Lynett Woods (Deceased).
Charles was an adoring and loving father to his only child Shavonda Merritt, who resides in Oxnand, California.
Charles has that “Never met a stranger” personality.
He will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
A visitation for Charles will be held Friday, August 18, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 SAN JOSE BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32207. A funeral service will occur Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel.
