

Charlie Roscoe Hawkins Jr, affectionately known to many as Chuck, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on January 31, 1941, in Whigham, Georgia, he lived a distinguished life defined by unwavering service, loyalty, and a meticulous work ethic.
A true patriot, Chuck dedicated over twenty years of his life to the United States Army. He served his country with honor as a Vietnam Veteran. His service included deployments around the world, and he retired honorably in 1980. His commitment to excellence did not end with his military service. Chuck went on to build successful careers at Great Western Finance and the United States Postal Service, retiring from both with the same conscientiousness that defined his character. Even after formal retirement, his hardworking nature led him to work with the Jacksonville Jaguars, allowing him to combine his professional discipline with his deep love for athletics.
Chuck was a man of assertive character and compassionate spirit. He was known for being meticulous in his endeavors and loyal to those he held dear. Outside of his professional life, he was a passionate sports enthusiast. He was a devoted fan of the Florida State Seminoles and the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he maintained active involvement in the Jacksonville Jaguars Champions Club. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf and found great joy in bargain shopping. He remained connected to his brothers-in-arms through his membership with the Disabled American Veterans.
Chuck is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-three years, Vera Hawkins; his sons, Paul Hawkins and Ricky Hawkins; his brother, Billy Hawkins: his grandchildren, Shea Hawkins, Seaver Hawkins, Brandi Taylor, and Shana Hawkins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Roscoe Hawkins Sr and Dollie Hawkins; his son, Bobby Hawkins; and his sisters, Mary Gay and Barbara Sikes.
A man of Christian faith, Chuck leaves behind a legacy of integrity and strength. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 17 at 11:00am, at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Funeral Home, located at 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223. This will be followed by a Military Funeral Service at 2:00pm at Jacksonville National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with the honors due to a dedicated veteran.
