Charlotte Lorena Hooks, age 71, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, in the city she called home throughout her life.
Charlotte was born on June 14, 1954, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Lorena Maxie Medley Hooks and Lorenza Freeman “Leon” Hooks. She was a woman with a generous heart, a strong spirit, and a deep love for her family and community.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Russell Huddleston (2009); her cherished son, Tony Eugene Hooks (2015); and her siblings Julian Leon Hooks (2019), Loretta Ann Rodrigo (2022), and Penny Dover (2022).
Charlotte leaves behind to honor and cherish her memory her loving grandson, Kyle Eugene Hooks; daughter-in-law Shirley Hooks; her brother, Tommy Dover; sisters-in-law Pam Thomas and Sherry Davila; nieces Candace Nicole Blume (husband Jeremy Alan Blume) and Lori Ann Rodrigo; nephews CJ Davila (wife Karen Davila and their three children) and Dylan Davila; additional nieces and nephews Brandy Kilpatrick, Lindzi Allen, and Travis Thomas; great-nieces Kaylee Belle Woods and Emily Jade Rodrigo; and great-nephews Austin Alan Richard Blume and Matthew Wayne Jeremiah Blume, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Charlotte built a career as a painting contractor and was proud to serve as a charter member, co-founder, and devoted “Lion Tamer” of the Jacksonville River City Lions Club. She was known for her humanitarian spirit, her volunteer work with the Arlington Eye Clinic, and her willingness to help support the Arlington Lions Club whenever there was a need. A devoted animal lover, Charlotte showed compassion and kindness in every part of her life.
In her quieter moments, Charlotte enjoyed playing bingo, Yahtzee, spending time on her color-by-numbers app, and sharing her joyful, contagious laughter with those around her. She had a warm presence, a caring heart, and a way of making people feel welcome and loved. Her strength, kindness, and sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew her.
Charlotte’s life was a beautiful example of love, service, and devotion to family. Her memory will live on in the many lives she touched.
A visitation will be held at Hardage - Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home, located at 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207, on February 26, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
A Celebration of Life will follow at the Arlington Lion's Club, located at 6523 Commerce Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32211, starting at 6:30 pm on the same day.
