Charlotte Bernard Setzer, 92, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on May 20, 2014 at River Garden Hebrew Home. She was born in Paterson, NJ on May 12, 1922 and moved to Jacksonville with her family at age 18.
Charlotte was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She worked as a bookkeeper for the majority of her life, first as a teenager in her father’s store and later for her sons’ businesses—Setzer’s Appliances and Dr. Barry Setzer, Pediatric Dentistry—until she was 88 years old. Charlotte was also an avid reader, often reading several books a week. Her family always knew that a new book, especially a thrilling detective novel, was the perfect gift for her.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Martin Setzer, and her sister, Renee Bernard Bloom. Survivors include her children, Alan Setzer (Paula), Barry Setzer (Ellen), her brother Edward Bernard, nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A graveside funeral officiated by Rabbi Joshua B. Lief will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 22 at the Temple Cemetery located within Evergreen Cemetery.
Contributions in memory of Charlotte may be directed to River Garden Hebrew Home.
