On September 4th, 2026, the Lord guided Christopher James Wong, 60, into heaven’s gates after passing away from complications related to graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and lymphoma. Christopher was born to Ray F. Wong and Colleen Wong. He is survived by his wife, Angela, his two sons, Darryl and Chad, his seven step-children, April, Robbie, Nicolas, Jessica, Savannah, Zachory, and Jeremiah, his five grandchildren, Max, Jayde, Sage, Jack, and Amelia, his mother, Colleen, his brothers, Troy and Michael, and his sisters, Kelly, Kendra, and Rachel.
Born April 17th, 1966 in Freeport, IL, Chris was, above all else, a loving son, brother, father, husband, grandfather, and friend who showed the same kindness and generosity towards others as he did towards his own family. Since his early life he was a fitness fanatic, making sure he was always ready to pose for the camera. He loved spending time with friends and driving his 5.0 Mustang around to get new comic books and albums, play Dungeons & Dragons, and get to his appointments for his short stint in modelling. He received an Associate of Arts degree in 1991 from Florida State College, followed by a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Florida in 1994.
On Memorial Day, 2009, Chris was diagnosed with stage-4 non-Hodgkins lymphoma, which went into remission until February 2011 when the cancer returned. His new treatment plan, starting in December 2011 from Shands at the University of Florida, began with a bone marrow transplant from Lauren Marie, which gifted him another fifteen years on this Earth to spend time with his friends, family, and loved ones.
If you ever went looking for him, Chris could always be found with his family either at home or on vacation, pumping iron at Bailey’s Powerhouse, or at work where he dedicated 28 years of service to Johnson & Johnson as an I.T. Manager. Some of Chris’s favorite pastime activities were going to the Jacksonville Zoo with loved ones, gathering friends and family to play Starcraft, Diablo, Dungeon, Dragon Lance, and Bauldr’s Gate 3, and enjoying music through concerts, light-shows, and driving around blaring the Heavy Metal soundtrack and Rush for anyone who would listen. Readily available to help with any finance questions, Chris was a treasure trove of information. He was always there to be a shoulder to lean on, no matter how he was doing in that moment. Like any great listener, he knew when to sit and listen and when to give advice from the many lessons he learned throughout his lifetime through personal experience and the countless audiobooks he constantly listened to.
No matter whether you were family or a friend of a friend, Chris’s witty humor could always get a smile out of anyone. It was his love language, and as he was frequently the biggest guy in the room, he loved to overreact to “love taps” with an “Ow ya squat”, or “Man the mosquitoes in here are bad”. His presence lit up a room and he will be forever missed. His Celebration of Life took place on September 9th, 2026 at his father's home.
In honor of Chris, please consider making a donation to one of the many charities that support others who are going through what Chris went through to give them the same fighting chance:
