
Born and raised in beautiful Thomasville, Georgia, Mrs. Morgan earned the friendship and adoration of many throughout the Southeast. Claire graduated from Duke University in 1949 along with her future husband, Joseph Morgan. They married in 1954 and began a life journey that included many adventures, trials and successes. In her younger years, Claire worked in Thomasville with her Father, Robert, at Flowers Lumber Company. Later she held various positions at Eastern Airlines and Davidson’s in Atlanta. After starting their family in New London, CT, the Morgan’s returned to their beloved South and established in Jacksonville in 1962. There, in addition to raising her family, Claire was involved in various enterprises and civic organizations. She was a social worker for the Division of Family Services, she was Founder and President of Florida Hospitality Services for over 20 years, and later worked as a realtor for several local agencies.
An active member of Ortega United Methodist Church, Claire taught Sunday School, led Girl Scouts, and was involved in various Circles within the United Methodist Women. Claire believed in lifelong learning and devoted many hours to the National Society of Colonial Dames, genealogy, the Jacksonville Garden Club, the English Speaking Union and pursued many opportunities for continuing education reflecting her multiple interests.
Claire was predeceased by: her husband, Joseph P. Morgan, sister, Ann Price (Porter) of Charlotte, NC, and her parents Robert and Nettie Flowers of Thomasville, GA.
She is survived by: her children Chase Morgan (Carl Schlossman), JP Morgan (Kelly), Bob Morgan (Maria); and seven grandchildren Annie and Aaron Schlossman, Anne Reiley and Chip Morgan, Robbie, Ryan and Scottie Morgan.
A Memorial Service will be held in Jacksonville at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Ortega United Methodist Church, 4807 Roosevelt Blvd. There will be a reception following in the Fellowship Hall at Ortega Methodist. In Lieu of flowers, Claire specifically requested you consider gifts to Ortega United Methodist Church, or otherwise give to the charity of your choice.
