Daniel (Danny) P. Hunter, 73, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on August 11, 2026. Born on May 15, 1953, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to John and Anita Hunter, Danny lived a life full of family, friendship, and adventure.
Danny proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. After his service, he went on to graduate from the University of New Orleans in 1988. He built a long career with JEA (Jacksonville Electric Authority), working as a technologist and web administrator for more than 20 years before retiring in 2018.
On February 25, 1978, Danny married the love of his life, Stephanie F. Hunter. Together they raised two sons, Brad Hunter (wife, Courtney Weatherby-Hunter) and Brett Hunter.
Danny never lost his love for New Orleans, the city where he grew up, running the streets of the Kenilworth neighborhood in New Orleans East with a group of friends who remained close to him his entire life. He loved telling stories of the shenanigans he and his childhood friends got into over the years. For many years, he and Stephanie gathered with family and friends — Uncle Mike and Aunt Wendy, Luther, Daryl, and Ricky — at the Knights of Columbus Hall on St. Charles Avenue for Mardi Gras. Danny was also a diehard New Orleans Saints fan, cheering on the black and gold through the highs and the lows!
Danny was raised in the Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy, and carried the values of that upbringing with him throughout his life. He was an avid outdoorsman and traveler who loved fishing and golf, and who rarely missed the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. He and Stephanie traveled extensively throughout the United States, visiting Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Alaska, Nevada, the Smoky Mountains, and New England to take in the fall foliage. He also traveled to Europe to visit his son Bradley while he was stationed in Germany.
Danny is survived by his wife, Stephanie F. Hunter; his sons, Brad Hunter (wife, Courtney Weatherby-Hunter) and Brett Hunter; and his siblings, John Hunter, Anita Hunter, Paul Hunter, and Brian Hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anita Hunter, and his brother, Thomas "Tommy" Hunter, who died as a child.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 pm on August 22, 2026, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32223.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choosing.
