David J. Ginzl

David James Ginzl, beloved husband, father, grandfather (papa), son, and brother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16th, 2012, in Jacksonville, FL. David was born on February 25th, 1947 in Sarasota, FL, the son of Rudolph James Ginzl and Arvilla Straight Ginzl. David graduated from Hartwick College (1969), Oneonta, NY, and earned his PhD in U.S. History from Syracuse University (1976). David was a twenty year Barnett Bank veteran. Following his retirement from Barnett in 1997, he authored and published three books, Images of America: Barnett Bank (2000), Barnett: The Story of “Florida’s Bank” (2001), Stein Mart: An American Story of Roots, Family, and Building A Greater Dream (2004). David was also a part-time history professor at The University of North Florida until 2008. David was a devout Catholic, an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and was a Sir Knight of Columbus, 4th Degree, of the Assembly 2679 and of Council 10850. David is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carole Lingel Ginzl; their three daughters, Christie Ginzl Harless (Jeff), Andrea Ginzl Greer, and Rebekah Anne Paredes (Peter); six much-loved grandchildren: Andrew, Jacob, and Sara Harless, Gabe Greer, and Nolan and Annemarie Parades; his mother, Arvilla Ginzl, and his brother, Paul Ginzl. He is preceded in death by his father, Rudolph J. Ginzl. David’s passions were his faith, his family, traveling, and baseball. A visitation will be held 6-8pm on Monday, February 20th, in Holy Family Catholic Church, 9800 Baymeadows Road, Jacksonville, FL with a Prayer Service at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am on Tuesday, February 20th, in Holy Family Catholic Church. Following the funeral service, David will be buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 11730 Old St. Augustine Road, Jacksonville, FL.
