

Dave was born May 28, 1948, in Marquette, Michigan to Roy and Cecelia (Perusse) Heitman. They moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin when he was three years old. He graduated from Washington High School class of 1966, where he lettered in wrestling. He enlisted in the US Army later that year. He served with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. He was very proud of his time serving there as a flight engineer on CH-47s (Chinook helicopters). Dave was a lifetime member of the 101st Airborne Association, Vietnam Veterans of America, and DAV. On October 14, 1978, he married Imogene Schlag of Crivitz, Wisconsin at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They lived in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin for 11 years and had two children (Amanda and Nick) before moving to Jacksonville, Florida. Dave loved watching Packers games with his son, Nick, and Brewers games with family. He was incredibly proud of his grandchildren, Oliver and Magnolia, and loved spending time with them. He tried to never miss any of their t-ball or baseball games. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Roy E. and Cecelia Heitman, his oldest brother, Joseph Raymond and his youngest sister, Nancy Heitman.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 47 years, Imogene Heitman, daughter Amanda Heitman, son Nicholas (Jessica) Heitman, two grandchildren, Oliver and Magnolia; brothers Roy D. Heitman and Thomas (the late Amporn) Heitman, sisters Karen Heitman and Patricia (Jim) Wildt; nieces and nephews Joseph IV, Patrick, Michelle, Jay (Dana), Erin, Ryan, Jeff, Jim (Kathryn), John, Erich (Lindsey), Angie (Scott), Amy and Jenny (Mike).
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Hope Lutheran Church,
8570 Philips Hwy Unit 104, Jacksonville, FL 32256. Refreshments to follow.
The Burial Service will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 12:30pm at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32218.
