Dear Pam,

How saddened I was to learn of your husband and our friend, Dave's passing from his precious life with you here on this earth.

Remember our wonderful times together at Century 21. 
It was such a good idea that you two met each other on the 
dance floor that night I introduced you two. You both  went on 
to spend a lifetime together.

And I was especially glad, too, when you folks drove here to
Winter Park where we shared memories at the Chinese Restaurant.

I’m certain that everyone who knew Dave, will never forget him. He told it like he saw it, always.
He was my Best Man, I smile whenever I think of Tall Dave - so glad he was a part of my life.

So many positive memories from our early years at Century 21 to our working years together.  Week ends on the volleyball courts getting beat up with Dave's over the net spikes., Great music by Jim Ball, Saturday nights at the club followed by early morning breakfast at Famous Amos.  - Dave enjoyed his music and may have been the better bumper of us all. We always enjoyed a laugh remembering his first weeks working at Sea Land learning the acronyms for refrigerated containers. Many years of enjoying the hospitality at gator games including Tequilla toasts.  I will always remember Dave for the great person he is. May you rest in peace. 

Dave was one of those great guys who enjoyed life so much.  I met Dave through my volunteering with Pam at the Museum.  In 2019, we celebrated our mutual birthday (January 3) at dinner with our spouses.  Good food and good company!  The previous month (December 2018), Pam hosted a Christmas luncheon at her home for our small group of volunteers working with Museum acquisitions.  Now, many husbands would have hidden in a back room until all the ladies left, but not Dave.  He was his usual larger than life presence, helping Pam in the kitchen, passing around hors d’oeuvres, enjoying the excellent shrimp ‘n grits main course that Pam had prepared, and keeping us supplied with the best cocktails you can imagine!  Fast forward to last November.  Pam and Dave were driving up to Georgia to get their supply of this season’s pecans and generously offered to pick up some for me.  I was ready to jump at the chance until I learned that the pecans were “crack ‘n shake” rather than fully shelled.  Having done this once in my life, I had vowed to never torture myself with this task ever again.  But Dave offered to shell them, and I was more than willing to let him do so!  Pam called me to pick up the beautifully shelled pecans within a couple of days, and we all had a great visit in the lovely home that Pam and Dave have made together. I so enjoyed that winter afternoon, the general conversation, and the fact that Dave ultimately gave me a fully detailed project analysis of the fine art of taming the task of “crack ‘n shake” pecans. I will always remember Dave’s fantastic cocktails and his expertise with pecans. I will remember how that project revealed that when he took on a task, he did it to the best of his ability and that he was “all in.”  And most importantly, the generosity of spirit and the great enjoyment of life that he and Pam shared so well together.  Dave will be dearly missed, and he has left an indelible impression on the minds and hearts of those who knew him.    

We've been thinking of all the fun times we had with Pam and Dave in the last 45 years, especially at Arpen family gatherings. Dave was a wonderful uncle to our kids and a good friend to us. Short visions of him kept popping into my (Sandy's) head at the hospital and for the last couple of weeks. Just picturing him doing things that we took for granted, like: grilling the best pulled pork ever anywhere; slicing the family turkey (every year!); giving you a hug that only a 6'8" guy could give; pouring that tequilla at 5:00 and leading the toast with gusto; dressed in Gator colors and going to all those games; sitting at the head of the table; drugging Kate on the ride to Williamsburg with cough medicine so she'd take a nap and stop talking for a few minutes; holding all the kids almost up to the ceiling when they were little; swimming in the pool with any child who wanted to go in; taking Matt and Kate golfing and laughing when Kate told everybody that "putting was a major problem for Uncle Dave" (she didn't get the concept of practice putts); sitting in his lounge chair watching golf or football or (more recently) music videos; calling Pam "Toots".

He was a good man and he loved Pam and they had a wonderful and interesting life together. We will be forever grateful for his presence in our lives and the lives of our children, Matt (and Kelly) and Kate (and George) and our grandchildren Gracie, Eli and Will.

I am grateful too to have been with Pam at his bedside on many occasions during his last days on this earth. We loved him and will miss him greatly.

Knowing Dave has been a great blessing and now that he is gone my family and I share in your sorrow and grief.  We will never forget all his wonderful ways and good times we shared together throughout the years in which he touched our lives.  We know you had a great marriage and loved each other so much.  There is little I can say to console you but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.  The world has truly lost a great man and we share your sorrow.

I first met Dave as a lowly analyst at Crowley but Dave always treated me with respect & we had a mutual love for the Gators. Over the years & many tailgates we became close friends. I would walk up to the tailgate & Dave would say... you know where it is Albert... the Jack Daniels... and make me one while your at it. He was always great with my boys at tailgates even with his large stature, the boys knew he was a sweetheart :) we love you Big Dave & will miss you. 

Dear pam and neuman family, thinking of all of you in this tough time. I am truly saddened for the loss of a great friend. Dave was a dear friend of my dad’s for many years. He was so good to my siblings and i. Always very supportive and caring for our well being. We have some great memories with pam and dave that will never be forgotten. Times on dad’s boat, looking through recipes in pam’s sisters cook book, ice cream at the jersey shore, sharing cheesy pretzels and many more. Sending love”

I have so many good memories of my dearest friend Dave. He  was always there for me even if it was just to get some advice. We could go months without talking but we always knew we could count on each other. He will be a huge void in my life.  Al Iannelli
