

BA degree from Quachita Baptist University and attended Midwestern
Theological Seminary and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He
was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1956 and served churches in
Arkansas, Missouri, Georgia and Florida. He was the first certified
volunteer chaplain in Florida. David was an active and supportive member
of Shindler Drive Baptist Church since 1991. He was a very loving
husband, father and grandfather, but his first love was the Lord which
he served faithfully since the age of 13 years. David is preceded in
death by his son, Timothy Lee. Survivors include his wife of over 55
years, Sylvia Jean Stevens; two sons, Michael Stevens and Rodney
(Rhonda) Hinson; daughter-in-law, Katherine Stevens; grandchildren,
Buddy (Michelle) Hinson, April (Charlie) Thompson, David Aaron Stevens
and Kellie Stevens; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Zachary, Sara and
Tristen; beloved brother-in-law James (Shirley) Hickman. The family will
greet friends for visitation from 6-8 pm, Friday, August 27, 2010 at the
funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010
at 3:00 pm, at Shindler Drive Baptist Church, 7100 Shindler Dr., Rev.
Todd Alvarez, officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Cemetery
in Middleburg, FL.
