

Devry Elias Dewan passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, surrounded by family, his lifelong dearest friend, and the family's Catholic priest. Born on May 9, 1960, in Danbury, Connecticut, Devry had a vibrant, active life and graced the world with his kindness, warmth, and generous spirit for 66 wonderful years.
Devry was the cherished youngest son of the late Chicory Elias Dewan and Nazira Chagra Dewan. Though his parents predeceased him, their legacy lived on through Devry's actions and the love he shared with his family. He is survived by his devoted brother, Derek Dewan, and sister-in-law, Kim Dewan; his loving sister, Zea Deeb, and brother-in-law, Steve Deeb. Devry's spirit also continues through his nephews Robby, Ryan (Anya) and Sean Deeb, nieces Elyse Speaks (Jeff), Brittany Frazier (James), and Allison Giebink (James), as well as his great-nephews Quinn and Reece Frazier, Christopher Deeb and great-nieces Amelia and Violet Speaks, Sloane Frazier, Rory and Mina Giebink and Nazira Deeb. His numerous cousins and friends also carry forward the love and joy that Devry so freely gave.
Devry's early years were spent in Jacksonville, Florida, where he attended Christ the King Catholic Elementary School and Bishop Kenny High School. At Bishop Kenny, Devry not only focused on academics but was also a key player on the highly successful Kenny football teams of the mid and late 1970's. After high school, his desire to major in accounting and love of Gator football led him to the University of Florida, where he graduated from the Fisher School of Accounting, setting the stage for a successful career.
After passing the uniform certified public accountants ( CPA) examination, Devry worked for the Internal Revenue Service and a boutique CPA firm before forming an accounting firm with his father. Together, they served the Jacksonville community for many years assisted by a team of dedicated accountants and support staff.
Devry was more than just a successful professional; he was a vibrant part of his community. Devry's "happy-go-lucky" nature and generosity were known to all who met him. His philanthropic spirit was boundless, contributing to numerous charities over his lifetime. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those in need, embodying the true spirit of giving. Devry actively supported his alma maters, Bishop Kenny High School and the University of Florida, including their respective football programs. He was a proud member of the University of Florida Alumni Association and served as a Knight in the Jacksonville Knights of Columbus. Devry supported many charities including the Shriners, The Southern Federation of Syrian Lebanese American Clubs Foundation where he was a past treasurer, Catholic Charities, the Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine and many other charitable organizations. His involvement with the Salaam Club of Florida in both leadership roles and financial support reflected his deep love for his Lebanese heritage and commitment to fostering community ties. Additionally, he was a respected member of various professional societies including the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
A true sports enthusiast, Devry was a passionate Gator fan, attending numerous SEC and National Championship Games for both football and basketball. He also cheered tirelessly for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Devry loved boating and water sports. He also valued his health, maintaining a dedicated exercise and workout regimen throughout most of his life.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at San Jose Catholic Church, located at 3619 Toledo Road, Jacksonville, Florida. The family will have a visitation at 10:00 A.M., with services beginning at 11 :00 A.M. Following the church service, committal will take place at Oaklawn Cemetery located at 4801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, Florida and a reception will follow at Epping Forest Yacht and Country Club located at 1830 Epping Forest Drive Jacksonville, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Bishop Kenny High School in Devry's honor, reflecting his unwavering support and love for his alma mater.
Devry touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and love. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him and his spirit will continue to inspire us all.
