

Donald Lee Cox, age 86, passed away suddenly Tuesday, April 7th, 2015, at 7:50 pm. He was born March 28th, 1929, in Prattville, Alabama, to parents Comer and Clara (Booth) Cox. Donald moved to Jacksonville in 1960 as his last duty assignment with the U.S. Navy and retired in November of 1969 with over 21 years of honorable service. He went on to work another 19 years for the United States Postal Service in Jacksonville, FL. He enjoyed 26 healthy and happy “retired” years before passing. Donald enjoyed riding his Gold Wing, Golfing, Fishing, Cooking, and relaxing in the hammock or his recliner. He loved to read the newspaper and drink his coffee every morning. He also loved watching The Voice, old western shows, and the Sopranos. He was a beloved husband, brother, father, stepfather, grandpa “papa” and great grandpa. Besides his loving wife, Leah Jewel (Hanna), Donald will be sadly missed by his children Diane Cox, Donald Jr., Denise McGinn, Dwayne Cox, Dori Heirder, and his stepdaughters Eve Waters, and Beth Crosby; brother, Jimmy Cox, sister Bobbi Albritton, his 12 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Hardage-Giddens 729 S Edgewood Ave Jacksonville, FL. The family will have open visitation at 10:00 a.m. preceding the service. Graveside at the National Cemetery on Lannie road promptly at 2:30.
