Donald Mayland McKinney, 82, passed away at his home in Jacksonville, Florida on Sunday, February 19, 2017. Don was born in Edmeston, New York, to William and Minnie McKinney on April, 10, 1934. After graduating high school Don joined the United States Air Force where he served as a ”Boomer” on the KC-10. Don told many wonderful, exciting stories of flying in the back of a KC-10. Don loved the Air Force, and served with pride. Don retired as Master Sargent with full honors. He was a husband, dad, grandfather, and a devoted Christian man who loved God. He was a proud Air Force Veteran, a kind, forgiving, generous, and loving soul with a ready wit and an infectious smile. One thing about Don I will always remember is his response when asked, “How are you doing today, Don?” His reply was always the same. “I’m finer than a frog hair split four ways!” “That’s pretty fine, Don,” I would reply. I’m sure if anyone asked him today how are you doing Don? He would surely say the same thing. We have lost one of life’s most decent, kind and wonderful people you’d ever hope to meet. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Don was preceded in death by his brother Howard and George McKinney and loving wife, Joan M. McKinney. Don is survived by his sons, David McKinney (Reba), Loren B. Temples (Debora); daughters, Cheryl, Marlene, Beverly, Rita; grandchildren, Renee, Brandy, Erin, Creed, Livia; great-grandchild Kyren and Nieces; Eileen, Dianne and Susan. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, March 3, 2017 with visitation one hour prior to service in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32223. The Committal Service will be held at a later date in the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
