Donald E. Merritt, 80, was born and raised in Florida. He was very proud of being a Floridian. Donald graduated from Andrew Jackson High School, Class of 1950. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and retired from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office where he spent 31½ years proudly serving the City of Jacksonville. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5-30 for 50 years and served 20 years as an officer of the Florida State Fraternal Order of Police Lodge. Donald is survived by his wife, Deborah Merritt; his son, Wayne Merritt and the proud grandfather of two granddaughters, Rainah M. Musselwhite (Brad), Kristy M. Merritt and his great-granddaughter, Alison M. Merritt. He is survived by his brothers, Curtis “Doyle” Merritt (Vivian) and Harold Merritt (Diane) and many wonderful nieces, nephews and close friends. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until 11:00am, Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Harvest Time Sanctuary Church of God, 4502 Old Middleburg Rd. N., Jacksonville, FL 32210. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am in the church with Chaplain Clarence Jarrell officiating. Burial will be held at Riverside Memorial Park of Jacksonville, FL. Arrangements are under the care of Hardage-Giddens Edgewood Funeral Home, 729 S. Edgewood Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32205.
