Donn Edgar Doolin, 66, of Saint Augustine, Florida (formerly of Peotone, Illinois) went to the Lord on November 1st, 2018 after a short battle with Cancer. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kristin and is survived by their son Nicholas, age 21 of Saint Augustine, FL, his sister Diana (Doolin) Crippen of Ocala, FL, and his brothers Doug of Lexington, IL and Drew of Dumfries, VA, along with many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Donn was born on December 26, 1951 to Donald Wilmer Doolin and Dorothy Lee Rhue (Doolin) Ludwick. He enjoyed growing up in the small town of Peotone, IL and had many close friends who shared his wonderful sense of humor and positive spirit. He graduated from Peotone High School in 1970 and is widely remembered as a great athlete, friend, classmate and one of the nicest people you would hope to meet. Donn was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who owned several motorcycles over his lifetime, and recently took two memorable rides, one with his son Nick and another with his brother Doug. Nick and Donn rented motorcycles in June 2018 in Riverside CA and rode over 380 miles in 24 hours through the mountains. In June 2017, Donn and Doug spent a week together enjoying long day trips throughout Illinois. They referred to this adventure as their “Get lost tour”. He was a private pilot, owned his own airplane for a time, and loved to fly. He spent the vast majority of his working life as a long haul truck driver, a profession he loved dearly. An entrepreneur at heart, Donn remodeled homes in Jacksonville Fl for a few years before “flipping” houses was a fad. Foremost to him however, were the titles of husband to Kristen and father to Nick. Donn cherished Nick’s early years when he was able to be a “stay at home Dad” because of Kristin’s successful career. During their 26 year marriage, they lived in Southern California, Michigan, and lastly in Florida. He will be greatly missed, but as a believer in Jesus Christ, he transitions with the knowledge that he will be reunited again with the Lord, his parents and Grandparents who preceded him, and the love of his life, Kristin. A visitation is set for Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207, with interment immediately following at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207. For more information call (904) 396- 2522. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in his name to a charity of your choice.

Have known the Doolin's since I was a youngster. I still see the Doolin house in Peotone, in my mind, and seeing the kids outside playing! I am praying for all of you and am sorry for your loss. Kathy Jacobsen

I remember meeting Donn a long time ago when drew and I would make a blanket tent in the back yard to sleep in. Donn got up early one morning before dark and scared the snot out of me and Drew. We could hear him laughing as he drove away. To Diana, Doug, and my best friend and Brother in Arms Drew. Our condolences to all the families.🙏✝️☮️

I also wanted to share one of my favorite Bible verses!
2 Corinthians 5 :1-10
Awaiting the New Body
5 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, 3 because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. 4 For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

6 Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7 For we live by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

I have known Donn and his family pretty much my whole life. We played together when his family lived in an apartment above the Peotone Locker plant. I also hung out with him at Grandma and Grampa Doolins where Grandma always made sure we were well fed and had plenty of kool-aid to drink. Later on we lived only a few block from each other. One time I was at his house and we went to the Pilbeams across the street from Donn. Somebody brought out two set's of boxing gloves and everyone there took turns boxing each other. Anyway they convinced me to put the gloves on and it was me and Donn exchanging blows except he threw the first punch landing square on my nose and I stepped back my eyes watering and threw those gloves off and declared right then and there I would never ever put boxing glove's on again and to this day I never have. I can't really say I will miss Donn because we have not seen each other in over 5years but you never forget "old friends " and growing up in a small rural farming town. We recently got reacquainted on Face Book and Donn shared some stories about his son Nick and the Maritime school he was enrolled at. Donn also posted some of the photo's from Nick's summer trip the students took and some of the ports they dropped anchor. I I felt privileged to share that with him. I was recently teasing him about retiring and he told me "why should I retire when I love what I'm doing" truer words were never spoken. To Diane,Doug and Drew I am grieving along with you. But I will also celebrate Donn's life with you knowing how much he loved the Lord and that is what will get all ya'll through this difficult time. I pray peace, comfort.joy and much love over all the Doolin family members. I also take comfort as all of you do knowing we will see Donn again glorified in our new and perfect heavenly bodies. Peace and joy be with you!

Donn was just a great guy. Not only was he the big brother of my dear friend Drew, I got to know him well from the days at the bowling alley. My condolences to the entire Doolin clan.
