Doris Singer, age 84, died peacefully at home on November 15, 2017, after a 3-year fight with lung cancer. Known for her relentless optimism, boundless energy, and distinctive voice, she is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Fred Singer; her three children, Ilene (Jeffrey) Levenson, Gary Singer (Sue Ventura), and Richard (Dana) Singer; grandchildren, Annie Levenson (Peter Ganong), Rachel (Ross) Carlson, Sara Singer, Brian Levenson, Eric Levenson, Josh Singer and Martin Singer, and one great grandchild (Ruth). Doris started her career as an elementary school teacher, then branched into activism upon her move to Florida in 1974. She was president of the National Council of Jewish Women for two different sections, and was president of the League of Women Voters of Martin County, and a current director of the League of Women Voters of Jacksonville First Coast. Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, November 19 at 11 a.m. in Hardage Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Interment to follow in Evergreen New Center Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the home of Ilene and Jeff Levenson. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to the League of Women Voters Education Fund or the charity of your choice.
