Very sorry to belatedly learn of Doug Schenk’s death from colon cancer.  

Please convey my deepest condolences to Doug Schenk’s extended family. 

Doug was outstanding in his judgment. Thank you Doug. Thank you thank you. 

Did not realize you were attending a Presbyterian church.  I am the son and grandson of Presbyterian missionaries to China and Japan.  Nice to learn we had faith in common too.

In addition to my earlier memorial card, I wanted to share two pictures from Doug's GMI days. On the left is Doug in Utah, where he picked up the nickname "Corncob" for his yellow and brown ski outfit. And on the right is Doug in his best form, at the bowling machine at Skip's Come Back Inn, just down the road from the Sigma Chi fraternity house in Flushing, Michigan. Brother Schenk will be missed.

My deepest sympathy goes out to all of Doug's family and friends.  It's apparent that he was greatly loved and admired by all.  It was heartwarming to read all the wonderful memories of Doug.  Those of us that had the pleasure of knowing him in high school, could almost predict that Doug would turn out to be the amazing man each of  you describe.  

The photo of Doug in the blue sweater made me smile.  I would have recognized him in a second after all these years.    When you have a good heart, a warm smile & kindness, like Doug did...everyone remembers you.  I am so happy that he had such a special life with so many people to love him.   RIP Doug, you will fondly be remembered.

May you all be blessed with comfort & peace of heart in the days ahead.

It was with sadness that I received notification of Doug’s passing, both by his loss at a relatively young age, and by not having had the opportunity to catch up with Doug on his life since the GMI days.  Doug and I were best friends and Sigma Chi fraternity brothers at General Motors Institute (now Kettering University). We did all the things that fraternity brothers do, from recruiting young women at the shopping mall to attend fraternity parties, to enjoying late nights at Skip’s Come Back Inn in downtown Flushing, bowling and enjoying lots of beer. One of my favorite stories of Doug was the time that he was driving north from the fraternity house on his way to Saginaw, and he had to pull over to let an ambulance pass. Doug being Doug, he then proceeded to follow it at high speed all the way to Saginaw, totally enjoying his high speed escort! We enjoyed our many trips to ski resorts in Utah, Colorado, northern Michigan, Ontario, and Quebec. I was the best man at Doug and Kim’s wedding in the late seventies, and he was an usher at my wedding to Anne Marie in 1983. Unfortunately we lost touch with each other when Doug went to China, and have not reconnected since. So I never got to see his boys grow up, or understand all the changes that took place in his life through the years. My loss, certainly. I’ll always remember Doug as a fun-loving guy with a great sense of humor, always up for an adventure. I’m sure that he lived life fully. The experiences that we shared come flooding back at such a time as this. My sincere condolences to his family, extended families, and friends on the loss of Doug. You are in my thoughts and prayers. 
I’ll separately look for a photo from our time together, and send it in. They’re in a box that needs some sorting (probably not an unfamiliar problem to many who aren’t as organized as they need to be).

Words can’t explain how sad I am to have lost my good friend Doug. I have many great memories of golfing, skiing, and attending sporting events with him.  I especially enjoyed our trips to Minneapolis to watch aTwins vs Tigers baseball game. He was a passionate Detroit fan. I’ll attend a game this summer to toast Doug, and will even root for the Tigers for this game in his honor. 

We are extremely sad to have lost our dear, sweet friend, but are sure that Jon's face lit up when he saw Doug - it always did!   We have so many wonderful memories of Doug and all of you.  You have our deepest sympathy.

We will miss Doug at our annual golf outing, but we know he has already lined up a threesome with Dennis and Jon with some type of wager that he will win.

To say our community has lost a dear friend and leader in Doug Schenk is a large understatement. His passing leaves a tremendous void in the River Hills Community. My deepest sympathy and thoughtful prayers to Tiger and Logan and the entire Schenk family.  I will greatly miss the many conversations Doug and I had on a wide variety of subjects including business, politics. etc. both locally and internationally. Doug's invaluable insight into  the Chinese economy and business practices was a tremendous help to me personally and his willingness to share that knowledge with an eager student speaks volumes. Doug was one of the smartest people I've ever met on a wide range of issues. Whether on the golf course or at the poker table Doug's sense of humor was always present and will be greatly missed. 

May you rest in peace my friend and may God's grace be with your family forever.

I worked with Doug at John Deere for many years in Waterloo.  He was brilliant.  Fun to work with.  And fun to golf with.  Doug was caring for others and certainly for his family.  We debated many issues over the years about Deere, politics, the economy and any worldwide problem that needed to be solved. And with a couple of beers and perhaps some wine we were able to solve most of these problems :)  Doug had an incredible insight into any complex issue.  I always have and always will admire Doug. I consider him a dear friend.  A few years back I shot an incredible round of golf with lots of luck at Sarasota National in Venice, Florida. I took all the boys money that day.  Doug affectionately labeled me “Sarasota Slim” He will be missed!!!!!
