It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a remarkable man, Edward "Ted" Hunter Elebash. Edward departed from us on January 29, 2025, just one month after celebrating his 65th birthday.
Edward was born to Clarence Couch Elebash (Colonel in the United States Air Force) and Patricia Snedeker Elebash, both of whom predeceased him. He leaves behind his sons, Edward Hunter Elebash of Jacksonville and Hunter Charles Elebash of Daytona, his siblings, Patricia Ann Elebash, Barbara Elebash Wasson (husband Mark), Alan Randolph Elebash (wife Gabriella) of Atlanta and nieces, nephews and cousins and many other family members and friends to treasure his memory.
Edward served proudly in the US Army, attaining the rank of O5 before his service ended. He later went on to obtain his master’s degree from The State University of New York. Ted was employed with AT&T at the time of his passing, where he had worked for many years.
Edward was known for his modest nature, kind disposition, dry sense of humor and wit, and his love of “ice cream” – a family trait. He was regarded as wise, loyal, and reserved; characteristics he inherited from his grandfather, Lieutenant General Edward W Snedeker, (United States Marine Corps). His favorite meal was a double cheeseburger from McDonald's, a secret he believed to be shared only between himself and his grand dog, BBright.
Edward was a voracious reader, there were few genres of books you would not find on his bookshelves, and he instilled his love of reading in his son, Edward H. Elebash II. His son Hunter Elebash also followed in his footsteps serving in the United States Army amd was awarded two Purple Hearts for his bravery. Ted loved physical fitness and could often be found running, walking, lifting weights, playing racquetball, or practicing martial arts at his favorite local gym or martial arts venues. Ted earned his black belt many years ago and assured that his sons did, as well. Ted ran numerous 5ks, 10ks and even trained and completed a triathlon.
A philanthropist at heart, Edward was dedicated to various causes throughout his life. His legacy is one of a hunger for learning, a genuine love for people, and an unwavering devotion to his family. He was deeply committed to leaving anyone he met better than he found them. Edward had many dear friends, but his longest and most treasured friends were Nels Gyland of Jacksonville, Donny Bowman of North Carolina and David Gardner, Jr of Jacksonville.
Edward’s sons will miss him immeasurably but treasure the life lessons of his work ethic, value of physical fitness, honesty, and his ability to love unconditionally. While his loss grieves all those who were fortunate enough to know him, his humility, honor, and wisdom will continue to inspire us, and we take comfort in the knowledge that his legacy endures through his sons, who were his life’s absolute greatest joy.
A celebration of life for Ted will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 2:00 PM. Please call (904) 641-9755 for location details.
