Elizabeth Ann Zabinski passed away peacefully on 24 March 2023 at 7:25AM. She was 84 Years old. Born in Jacksonville, FL to Dell Hoke St. John Sr. & Sarah Elizabeth St. John (White). Her father owned Loftin & Taylor Gun & Locksmith. Her Mother cut the ribbon on the Southside of the Acosta Bridge Grand Opening, the 1st bridge over the St Johns River. Her Grandfather John Fletcher White was the 1st Mayor of South Jacksonville. Betty Ann as she was known in her younger years & by many family members was a Landon HS Lionette. At DuPont High School she enjoyed many clubs & was a Senior Superlative "Go Dragons". She was raised as a member of the United Methodist Church of Jacksonville on Spring Park Road which was founded with the help of her family. She graduated FSU in Tallahassee with a teaching degree.
Betty or Liz as she was known later was a school teacher for many years. She was an avid letter writer and enjoyed reading cards and letters from many friends and families throughout her life. She took great pride in her family. Liz was a cherished mother, adored wife and an iconic and feisty friend to many. As a proud US Air Force wife she lived in England, Germany, Spain, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Saudi Arabia and FL. She was editor of 3 Officer Wives Club Magazines & served on many boards and was an excellent gourmet cook who enjoyed entertaining. She had a great sense of humor and loved hymns & 50's music. She retired happily in Satellite Beach, FL. She & her wonderful "hubby" of 54 yrs enjoyed timesharing in GA, VT, CT, MA & other places.
She was predeceased by her parents; older brother Dell Hoke St. John, Jr. and her son Dell. She is survived by her loving husband Colonel USAF (ret.) Henry James (Jim) Zabinski; sons Robert and Stephen; daughter-in-law Christina; grandsons Timothy, Joshua, Christian and Cambridge; granddaughters Mandy and Carolina; and great grandchildren Jenkin, Emberly, Paisley, Nevaeh, and Chloe.
The Funeral Service will be held on Tues, April 4th at 11AM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home at Oaklawn Cemetery in Jacksonville followed by interment. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Diabetes.org. Condolences at www.hardagegiddensoaklawnchapel.com.
