Elizabeth (Liz) Barket Abdelnour passed away peacefully at the age of 94, surrounded by her family. Liz was born in Jacksonville, Florida on January 9, 1928. She grew up in Jacksonville as the second youngest of five sisters, Frances, Mary, Louise, Elizabeth, and Georgia. She married her loving husband, Nassif (Basil) Abdelnour at St. John’s Cathedral on June 14, 1953. Together they happily raised their four children, Mark, Danny, Sandi and David, in Jacksonville.
Liz was a force to be reckoned with. She lived life to the fullest and loved her family deeply. Liz was unmatched in the kitchen, a whiz at playing the stock market, and a fierce competitor at cards, from 31 to bridge. She was the matriarch of her large and loving family.
She is predeceased by her son David, her husband Basil, and sisters Frances Joseph and Mary Lewis. She is survived by her sisters Louise Korey and Georgia Abdenour, her children, Mark (Rindy) and Danny (Jan) Abdelnour and Sandi (Jim) Thompson, her grandchildren Sarah Chunn, Kate Goff, Madison Turrentine, Scott, Kelly, Jeff, Davee Thompson, and Meredith Abdelnour, and her eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm at St. John's Cathedral this Sunday, August 14, 2022. We will be celebrating her beautiful life at a Mercy Meal at Taliaferro Hall at the Cathedral immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
