
E. Davis Burner was born December 29, 1911 in Cass, West Virginia, and died July 23, 2011 at the age of 99. He was the son of Elmer Davis Burner and Mary Louise Gillispie. He moved to Jacksonville in 1932 after graduating from high school in West Virginia, and was one of five brothers who served in World War II.
After the war he returned to Jacksonville and entered the real estate business, first at Nussbaum & Sons and then at Bisbee Baldwin Corporation, where he served as Vice President and Property Manger. He later joined Stockton Whatley Davin & Co. in commercial real estate sales, where he was a leading salesman for a number of years. He continued to invest in the real estate market after his retirement, and was actively involved up to the time of his death. During the course of his career Mr. Burner served as President of the Jacksonville Property Managers Association and as an officer of the North Florida Chapter of Certified Property Managers. He received a number of sales awards, including the SME Distinguished Salesman Award in 1974 and the Stanley Norton Memorial Award in 1997.
Mr. Burner was a long time member of the Seminole Club. The German American Club, and the Jacksonville Quarterback Club, and at the time of his death was a member of the Ponte Vedra Club, and Timuquana Country Club. He was a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church.
Mr Burner was predeceased by his wife, Alice Talley Burner, and is survived by his sons, John Robert Burner, C. Davis Burner, and A. Graham Allen (Marjorie), and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, with a reception immediately following at the German American Club, 4165 Lakeside Drive.
The family would like to thank Rhode Gilot and her husband Jean, Mr. Burner’s caregivers during his final weeks, and Dr. Joseph Pattison and his staff, and North Florida Hematology & Oncology and their staff, for their care over the years. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32257.
