November 16, 1931 – October 5, 2026
Emmett Jackson Brewer, lovingly known as “Jackie” to his family and “Sandman” to his colleagues, entered into rest on October 5, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on November 16, 1931, in Monroe, North Carolina, Jackie lived a long and full life marked by hard work, dedication, quick wit, and a deep love for his family.
Jackie was a man of many trades who took pride in working with his hands. A hardworking businessman throughout his life, he owned and operated his own business alongside his beloved wife, Shirley. His work included home building, fill dirt contracting, and heavy equipment operation in the construction industry. Jackie believed in working hard and providing for those he loved, making sure his family was always taken care of.
Beyond his work, Jackie had a passion for deep-sea fishing. Whether catching snapper, tuna, or whatever else the day brought in, he enjoyed spending time on the water with his friends. Fishing was both a favorite pastime and a way to earn extra money, as he often sold his catch near Mayport and to a local restaurant. However, according to Shirley, nothing could compare to the taste of the fish Jackie brought home and cooked himself—not even a restaurant meal!
Jackie proudly served in the United States Air Force and carried his strong work ethic with him throughout his life. Known for his quick wit and occasional stubborn streak, he was also a generous man who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He had a businessman's spirit, a practical nature, and a special way of making sure his family never went without. His devotion to Shirley was evident in the life they built together, and he certainly made sure she could enjoy a shopping trip whenever she pleased.
Above all, Jackie leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, laughter, and lasting memories. His life was defined not only by the work he accomplished but also by the people he loved and the lives he touched along the way.
Jackie was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Brewer; his father, Walter Emmett Brewer; and his son, Ronald Brewer.
He leaves to cherish his memory of his beloved wife of 68 years, Shirley; his daughter, Sharon; his two sisters; and many other loving family members and friends.
Jackie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Though he may be gone from their sight, the memories of his quick wit, hard working hands, generous heart, and unmistakable spirit will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
