Eric John Anderson, 63, passed away in Jacksonville, FL on July 18, 2014 after a five-year battle with Alzheimer’s. After graduating from Orange Park High School, he earned degrees in shipbuilding, natural sciences, naval architecture, and industrial engineering. He put his talents to work at Fruehauf Shipbuilding, Burger Yachts, and felt fortunate to have enjoyed a 17-year career with JM Family Enterprises, with his crowning achievement of bringing Southeast Toyota’s Westlake facility to fruition. Eric loved to travel and excelled in all outdoor activities. In his youth he was an excellent swimmer, diver, and water skier, and - as a fantastic craftsman - even made his own slalom skis. He enjoyed sailing with the Rudder Club and winning the Mug Race. He cherished his Scandinavian heritage and the tools and trades that were passed down from previous generations. He embraced a strong work ethic, a passion for productivity, and the pursuit of excellence in all things. Eric was known for his lively debates, especially regarding politics and philosophy. Eric met the love of his life, Angie, while working with JM Family and they married in 2009 after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and resided in Switzerland, FL with their two adored dogs. Angie ensured that Eric lived life to the fullest during the past five years, and they travelled extensively until he began a rapid decline in 2013. Eric was very blessed to have his wife, Angie, friend Shirley Noles, and his precious mother-in-law, Dot Brown, provide loving in-home care through most of his illness. Eric is survived by his devoted wife, Angie Anderson, his sister, Karen Anderson Merrill (Bill), nephews Gadsden Merrill (Martha) and Alex Merrill (Allie), and step-daughter Jessica Milligan Stone (Michael). He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Ken Anderson who are interred at Arlington National Cemetery. Eric’s life will be celebrated on Friday, July 25 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home at 11801 San Jose Boulevard in Mandarin, with visitation at 5:00 p.m. followed by a brief memorial service at 6:00. Please share your memories or thoughts with the family by signing the guest book. A private burial will take place at a later date at the family farm, Alveley, in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Charlottesville, Virginia.
