Dr. Ernest R. "Bud" Larsen passed away peacefully on June 7th at the Earl B Hadlow Community Hospice Center, Jacksonville, Florida surrounded by his daughters, shortly after celebrating his 91st birthday. He lived at home until the week prior thanks to "Team Bud" - helpers, family and neighbors who worked with him in recent years to honor his wish to stay in his home and have a sense of community. We would like to thank all of you who assisted but especially Mike and Barbara Head, Cristina Tavares, Tiffany Johnson, Noemi Coffel, Danny Crowley, Julie Olsen, Michele Myers, Deborah Wilce, and Sybil Holland.
Bud moved to Florida in 1966 to pursue his love of fishing and hunting. He also loved camping and backpacking in the Tennessee and North Carolina Mountains. He was very intellectual, quite the talker, and loved to share his stories. He had a wide range of interests and was always interested in learning something new. He loved to watch University of Tennessee and Jacksonville Jaguars football games and Fox News. He took up running and ran in his first Gate River Run at age 60. He also loved to take and collect notes and was known for his fighting spirit and stubbornness. He was an active member of Arlington Congregational Church until his death and previously was a longtime member of the Unitarian Universalist Church.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois on 5/28/29. He received a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Cornell College in Iowa where he was a college football player and played both offense and defense for his team. He received a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Tennessee. He served in the Army during the Korean War 8/7/51 – 8/6/53.
Bud worked as a consulting Psychologist in independent practice offering Industrial Organizational Psychology services to business, industry, professional firms and governmental agencies. His career included working with the Jacksonville office of Byron, Harless, Reid & Associates as a Consulting Psychologist, and at the VA Center in Johnson City, Tennessee as a Staff Psychologist and later as Chief of Psychology Services. He also taught Psychology classes at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville University, University of Tennessee, and Greensboro College.
He authored or co-authored 13 articles published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, Geriatrics, and Report of Psychological Research.
Over his lifetime, he was involved with a number of professional and civic organizations – First Coast Fly Fishers, North Florida Chapter Safari Club International, Florida Surf Casters, NE Florida Psychological Association, Duval Chapter of the Florida Psychological Association (Past President), Society for Industrial & Organizational Psychology, American Psychological Association, Society for Human Resource Management, American Society for Training & Development (Past Board Member) and the Meninak club.
Bud was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Thelma Louise “T.L.” Elliott Larsen (2015). Survived by daughters Melissa Coppedge (Bill), Megan Buscher (Doug), and step daughter Celia Lester; Grandchildren, Rebecca Isola (Josh), Elizabeth Doty (Stu), Chase Buscher, Kelly Buscher, and step granddaughter Jennifer Spain (Brandon); Great grandchildren Annabelle Rojas (Arturo), Clara Brumbeloe, Finn Doty, and step great-grandchildren Lily and Lucas Spain; Sister Marian Holmgren, nephew David Holmgren (Janet), niece Holly Paul (Larry), great-nephews Peter (Sydney) and Eric, great-nieces Tina Paul & Laura Shepherd (Brian); great-great-nieces Tynne and Cole Holmgren, Lily and Mia Shepherd, and Madison Paul.
He was much loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Bud suffered from a degenerative neurological condition called Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT).
