Mrs. Etta M. Johnson passed away on January 13, 2020 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was 94 years old. Etta was born July 19, 1925 in Smithfield, NC to Zeb and Ina Daughtry. She spent many years working with her husband, Allen Johnson, in their family business endeavors; most recently, A & E Transport and Allen’s Towing Service. Though they loved their work, Etta and Allen often traveled many miles to enjoy special times with their grandkids. They embarked on great vacations with dear friends and family, traveling from Canada to California. They would often stop in for a major league baseball game in whatever city they were in. They were season ticket holders and went to many Atlanta Braves baseball games. They had a home in Maggie Valley, NC and spent lots of days together enjoying the Smoky Mountains, or “God’s Country”. They also had a home at River Bend in Welaka, FL and spent many great days with family and friends by the water. This was a favorite for the grandkids. Etta invested years and years in Christian service at San Jose Baptist Church, with youth group prayer breakfasts, Sunday night fellowships, youth ski trips, WMU Missions, and the Florida Baptist Children’s Home. Etta and Allen were most recently active members of Franklin Street Baptist Church.
Etta is survived by her husband of 55 years, Allen Johnson; sister, Jean Johnson; sister-in-law, Doris Stancil; sons, Jerry Barbour (Louise), Dennis Barbour (Debbie) and Mark Barbour; daughter, Cathy Rozier (Ken); 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3:00pm to 5:00pm on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32207.
