Born December 30, 1942, Farrell learned hard work at a young age growing up on a farm and years spent at the Larsen Ranch in McCammon, ID. He would later begin a life-long career in grocery retail after taking a job as a Meat Cutter with Albertson's in Pocatello, ID, which ultimately led him to Bear Lake County in Idaho where he would take over the job as Store Manager at Broulim's Thriftway in the city of Montpelier, ID, a store he would go on to manage until the late 1980s. While managing the town's only grocery store, he also served on the City Council from January 1978 until February 1981, at which point he ran for and was elected Mayor, serving dutifully until December 31, 1985. Upon relocating his family to Jacksonville, Florida in 1988, he would continue his career in grocery retail with Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. in multiple management positions in addition to working for Gate Petroleum where he also held a store manager position. After more than 20 years with both companies, Farrell retired at the age of 72 in 2014.
Farrell loved hot coffee and chocolate donuts, good food with an occasional cocktail, good music, enjoyed the occasional trip to the movie theater to catch a good flick, and could always be found enjoying a good nap.
