Felipe T. Pia, Jr. MD, 87, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, after a courageous battle with dementia. He was born on July 29, 1939, in Manila, Philippines, to the late Felipe and Lenore Pia.
Felipe graduated from Far Eastern University Medical School in 1965, where he met his beloved wife, Zenaida. In 1966, he came to the United States for an internship in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and later completed his residency at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
He moved to West Virginia to work as a staff pathologist at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital and later continued his career at Princeton Community Hospital, where he served the community for 35 years before retiring in Jacksonville, Florida.
Felipe was a dedicated pathologist and valued member of his community. He enjoyed playing the piano, golfing, bowling, dancing and playing mahjong with close friends. He traveled to many countries with his wife and friends, but his favorite trips were beach vacations with his family. He will be remembered as a loving and generous son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Felipe is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Zenaida, of Jacksonville, Florida; his children, Felipe III and his wife, Patty, of Jacksonville, Florida, Ed and his wife, Melissa, of Lexington, South Carolina, Suzy and her husband, John, of Stokesdale, North Carolina, and Carol and her husband, Tim, of Huntersville, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Andrew, Olivia, Eric, Alex, Christine, Sarah, Emily, and Claire; and his siblings, Renato, Teresita, and Manuel Pia.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Anne and Donald McGraw Center for Caring of Community Hospice and its staff for their excellent care, compassion, and support.
