
DEASON, Frances Dugger, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully with three generations of her family at her bedside on Saturday, September 10, 2011. Born October 4, 1913 in Lynchburg Virginia, Frances was one of 11 children. She lived with her family in Lynchburg until she graduated from high school, and moved to High Point, North Carolina to attend nursing school. There she met her first husband, Gatewood Shipman. Frances and Gatewood made High Point their home until he lost his life in World War II during the Battle of the Bulge. Frances later married Stephen Kelly Deason of Barnwell, South Carolina. They moved multiple times with the Railroad, before settling in Richmond, Virginia where she raised her three children. She and Stephen later moved to Jacksonville, Florida for a period of time. Frances relocated back to Richmond where she lived until her passing. Frances had a spunky personality and loved to be around people and share stories. She was a devout Catholic who cared deeply for her family. As a loving mother and retired nurse, Frances opened her heart and nurtured anyone in need throughout her life. She is survived by her three daughters, Ann Herbert, Mary Fisher and Dorothy Price and her husband, Dennis, of White Springs, Florida; her brother, Henry Dugger of Pensacola, Florida; her grandchildren, Charlie Herbert and his wife, Lori Berkey, of Shrewsbury, Mass., Catherine Cary and her husband, Edward, Michelle Thomas and her husband, Todd, Wendy Vandy and her husband, Scott, Beth Dameron and her husband, David, Daniel Tuttle, Anna Xiyachack and her husband, Kham, and Harlan Price of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and her 13 great-grandchildren. Her family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, at Bliley's - Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., Richmond, Va. 23228, with a Christian Wake service beginning at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, at the Catholic Church of the Redeemer at 8275 Meadowbridge Rd., Mechanicsville, Virginia 23116. Graveside service and burial will take place on Friday, September 16, 3 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Hose Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida 32207. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Redeemer, in memory of Frances Deason.
