Frances Catherine Nelson Maughan

Frances Catherine Nelson Maughan, age 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. After years of loving care by family and at Wyndham Lakes and Southlake Nursing and Rehabilitative Center in Jacksonville, she will be missed by many.

Catherine was born on Wednesday, May 21, 1919 in Cordele, Georgia, to Tom and Frances Nelson. She grew up in Live Oak, Florida and married her husband Sam Maughan in 1937. They and their two boys lived in Tallahassee, Miami, and Jacksonville as Sam rose to be state manager of United Insurance Company of America. She loved to travel, to laugh, especially with her grandson, and to cook for her family, to dance with her granddaughters, and get kissed from her 4 great-grandsons. Catherine has joined her husband Sam, her parents, her brother, and other family and friends as they celebrate the beginning of her new life.

She is survived by her sons Nelson (Phyllis), Tommy (Margaret) Maughan, her two grandsons, four granddaughters, and four great-grandsons. Funeral services will be held at the Graveside at one o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Oaklawn Cemetery with Rev. Ron Henson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Haven Hospice. HARDAGE-GIDDENS, THE OAKLAWN CHAPEL, 4801 San Jose Boulevard is serving the family.
